I thought it would be cute to make a matching crochet bikini top for me and my daughter. I've researched a little about the best yarn type to make this, but so many options, and I end up confused lol. Tell me guys, what type of yarn that would be amazing for swimwear but affordable too.

successfully crocheted a bikini top using mercerized cotton thread and it held its shape and dried nicely. hvaent tried making bottoms with it yet, though i did make a whole set with cheap acrylic yarn, and it didnt go well at all the bottoms were especially uncomfortable.

That's adorableeee. I think you should go with cotton-blend or mercerized cotton if you want a swimwear that will hold shape and won't stretch out when wet. Premier Home Cotton has options for you. :)

I feel nylon blends or 100% mercerized cotton are your best bet on a budget, lion brand 24/7 cotton is a solid pick, or even some of the thinner bamboo or cotton blends if you double up the strand. Avoid acrylic unless it's just for photoshoots cos it won't hold up in water.

Nylon or polyamide blends are best for swimwear because they dry more quickly than cotton and they are durable and stretchy.

Too cute!! For a matching crochet bikini top, you'll want a yarn that's durable, stretchy, and holds up well in water like a cotton blend with some nylon or polyester. It's breathable and comfy but also dries quickly. Look for affordable sport or DK weight yarns labeled as swimwear or summer yarns

I love the idea of making matching bikinis! It seems like mercerized cotton or cotton blends are a favorite choice because they keep their shape really well and dry quickly without stretching out. Nylon or polyamide blends also come highly recommended for their durability and fast drying properties. On the other hand, acrylic isn't ideal for swimwear unless it's just for a fashion statement. Are you thinking about going for a natural fiber, or do you prefer a synthetic blend?

Ill put my +1 here, for swimwear, cotton or a cotton blend yarn is your best bet because its breathable, affordable, and holds up pretty well in water. Mercerized cotton or cotton mixed with some nylon will keep it strong and stretchy without costing a fortune. Just avoid super soft or fuzzy yarns since they wont dry or hold shape well. Perfect for a fun matching set!
