Beanie not taking shape

I'm having trouble getting my beanie to take shape. Every time I finish expanding the crown and move on to the walls, the hat just keeps getting wider instead of curving up even though I'm not adding stitches. Logically, the circumference shouldn't increase, but somehow, it does. I'm at 84 stitches on round 6 of dc, and I'm continuing along this same count but still and yet the edge wont curl, anyone has an idea what could be causing this?

sounds like your beanie's got a mind of its own! if it's still growing wide maybe your tension's too loose or those double crochets are sneakily stretching out. try switching to a smaller hook or tightening up your grip.

It happened to me before, I've learned from my own mistake It happened that my stitch height was too tall for the curve to form. Instead of double crochet i went with half-double crochet and finally the curve started forming. I'm a beginner but i hope i helped

Just make sure you're not pulling too tight or too loose, especially when switching between rounds. Also, check if you're accidentally skipping any stitches or if there's a difference in stitch height. If you keep your stitch count and tension steady, it should start to curve the way you want

It could be that the stitch tension is too loose, but also double-check if you're consistently working into the top two loops of each stitch from the previous round.

Catching extra bits can widen things!!

As you work on the sides, you might find the tension is getting looser since double crochet tends to flare. If that happens, try using a smaller hook for the walls or switch to half double crochet to get that inward curve. Also, make sure you're not adding any stitches by mistake where the pieces join.
