@pushnpull and @S. A. M., interesting takes but have either of you considered the awkward thing about those online ones? Like yeah they're pretty but sometimes a little too slick for those stubborn yarns that refuse to cooperate, making your fingers work overtime, so DIY might be the way to go and who knows, you might accidentally come up with something even cooler while fixing that scratchy yarn problem and if not, at least you got some crafting tales to tell.

You can use floral wires to DIY your tension rings. that or a thicker wire will do

You're so right on how they're really good with much rougher yarns. I love mine!! Been collecting a few now honestly. Lol

Finger protectors are great for using with rough yarns, as they help keep your fingers from getting sore. Silicone thimbles are sturdy choice worth considering.
